LIZARD ISLAND DAY TOUR
The Lizard Island Group is a continental island group close to the outer barrier reefs on the edge of the continental shelf. The stark beauty of Lizard Island, rising 359m above sea level, is in direct contrast to the sparkling blue waters and luxuriant fringing reefs that surround the island group.
The six islands of the Lizard Island Group lie in a cluster 27km from the Queensland coast, 93km north-east of Cooktown. Lizard Island was declared a national park in 1939. The other islands were added to the national park in 1987.
Bring along your smile, camera, sunscreen, sunglasses and good walking shoes. Lizard Island has no services of any type available, and we will carry in all that we need for the day including water, cold drinks, lunch and snorkel equipment. For this reason baggage is strictly limited to 25 Kg per passenger on this flight.
YOUR ITINERARY
0700 Free pickup from your accommodation.
0800 Depart Cairns Airport for a 1½ hour, low-level scenic flight to beautiful Lizard Island. On the way we will pass Barron Falls, Kuranda, Port Douglas, Daintree River, Cape Tribulation and various reefs and sand cays of The Great Barrier Reef. Photographic opportunities are abundant and our high wing aircraft, with recently installed new windows, is the perfect platform.
0930 Arrive at Lizard Island for a short walk to the beautiful Watsons Bay. We now have a full six hours to explore this Island, with it's 23 beaches, diverse coral range and spectacular marine life. The beaches and reefs surrounding Lizard Island are World renowned, it simply does not get any better than this. Snorkel in crystal clear water to view the hundreds of species of colourful reef fish and diverse coral formations.
Lunch is supplied today will consist of fresh tropical fruits, salads and a selection of bread, cheese and accompaniments. Cold drinks and snacks will be on board the aircraft for both scenic flights.
1530 Sadly we farewell this glimpse of paradise, and board our aircraft for a 1¼ hour flight back to Cairns. This flight will be conducted at a moderate altitude, rewarding us with a new perspective. Tracking home via the outer reef the panoramic views defy description; hope you still have some film left.
1630 Arrive at Cairns airport and complimentary drop-off at your accomodation.
